(General Information)
Replacement crown is a sort of a cape intended to replace the natural crown (visible part) of a tooth. This replacement might be only partial or total. A crown implant becomes necessary when a large part of the tooth has been destroyed, to support a bridge or to improve the appearance of teeth.
First, the dentist cleans the tooth and removes decay. An impression of the tooth is made, to serve as a model for the replacement crown.
The replacement crown is custom-made, in order to match in color, shape and proportion with the natural teeth. They might be made of porcelain, gold or a combination of metal. Crowns might also be made of a combination of metal base with porcelain, combining resistance of metal with good appearance of porcelain. In this case, the crown is called Porcelain Jacket Crown.
While the replacement crown is being manufactured, a temporary acrylic crown will be placed. The temporary acrylic crown looks like the replacement crown and does not require special care such as to eat, for example.
Some patients might present sensitivity to cold and hot a few days following the treatment. This is absolutely expected and should improve with time.
Results are long-lasting. On average, results last up to 40 years
Crown-implant is a successful way to restore teeth or improve their appearance achieving natural and comfortable results.
The procedure is nearly painless, once a local anesthesia is used to prepare the tooth and also to take its impression. In case of pain after the procedure, a pain reliever can be taken.
Once the procedure is done, there is no need to take special care about eating. Chewing is the same as with natural teeth, even when using a temporary crown.

This patient was in a bad condition. Poor dental care lead to a massive teeth loss and maxillary breakdown with esthetic collapse.

The final radiograph shows the position of the implants and the healthy integration to the living tissue.

The complete oral reconstruction was possible with implant supported porcelain crowns, in addition to restoration of the natural teeth.
